Next Gen Materials
For a product to be sustainable, we look at what it's made out of, the waste that is created in its production and shipping, and the people that benefit. Next gen materials refers to products that are upcycled from waste, like used sweaters turned into hats or gloves; or food waste turned into bags as is the case with Apple Leather; or plant based materials like Cactus or Cork Leather.
While we call them next gen materials, many of our local businesses' sustainable products are actually pretty old school. What we mean by this is that they take out the toxins and the plastic from their product production, instead using natural and organic ingredients and materials like recycled glass, silver, and gold or sustainably harvested wood, cotton, linen or hemp.
